[directfb-users] Newbie: getting directFB examples to run cleanly

I loaded DirectFB-0.9.17 and its examples.

All examples showed instances of "panning display failed: invalid argument";
they still ran.

Three programs (pss, df_fire and spacedream) failed on "CreateSurface(): not
supported. Odd because the code shows that the other examples use
CreateSurface as well.

The code was compiled in Linux RH8.0. Its compiler does sometimes have
problems with DOUBLE_WORD_LENGTH.

The examples were run under a VESA driver.

Another oddity: the binaries and the libs are in /user/local/bin and
/user/local/lib respectively. However all examples complained about the
library not being available and I had to put a symbolic link to the lib in
/user/lib.
