the fb.modes shipped with DirectFB are meant as an example. Actually
we'd rather not use fb.modes at all but haven't yet found the time to
design a suitable directfb configuration file. However if you'd send a
patch that adds some suitable TV modes, we could of course add them to
example fb.modes file.
